The image of drug abuse in the United States has been subject to racist standards but ignore the fact that drug abuse affects everyone despite race and/or ethnicity. Pharmaceutical drugs have been very popular in recent years and widely and easily available. We have been over medicating our children who have gradually taken the habit of pill popping into adolescence and then full blown addicts as adults. There are many who call themselves certified physicians who are nothing more than drug pushers, prescribing unnecessary medication to the public.

Far too often, harsh punishment has been meted out to non-violent drug offenders and they end up in jail becoming the overwhelming burden of the tax payers. Much of the legislation against illegal drugs often focuses on those who use the drugs and not those who traffic the illicit substances.
